Colonialism Related to Gaze and Surveillance, W-3

During our class period we had discussed Manifest Destiny. This was a time when there was a "mission" to spread Christianity across the United States. New colonies were moving West in attempt to convert or run out Native American Indians. Demonstration of colonialism had taken place during this time period with a new understanding of hierachy coming into focus. With colonialism in full swing in the United States, all people began to realize that the more power a person or group of people had, the more they could control order. Now, I understand "gaze" to be an idea which can be relied on for knowledge. Relating this to colonialism, more people who had a larger surveillance of "gaze" would automatically make this person or group of people more apt to taking a leadership role of power within their own people. Not understanding other groups of people causes people to formulate different ideas or stereotypes, which in turn can result in negative consequences such as Manifest Destiny.
