Mascots are a great tradition that put a "name" to almost every sports team. They range from an assortment of "things"(stars, flames, etc.), to animals and to actual humans such as cowboys or Indians. The biggest controversial issue that has been buzzing is if whether or not it is politically correct to name mascots after or about Indians.
I feel that teams should be allowed to have their mascots named after tribes AS LONG AS they go through a session or weekend or something that gives them history and a cultural background for that selected tribe. This way the mascot can hopefully gain respect about another culture and not portray them in a degrading way.
If some type of training was done for the mascots I think that would alleviate a lot of the controversy.
