Response to Trudell, W-4

John Trudell was a political activist for Native American Indians. Trudell had helped Native Americans to express that they too have rights. He helped them to say they wanted to be looked at and respected as equals. I thought that Trudell was a very important person in America's history as well as Native American culture.

I found many parts of John Trudell's journey as an activist very interesting. Very early in his life when Trudell was in high school, he was told he had a lot of potential to be great but he would have to work harder. Because he did not agree with them he quit school. Quickly in life, people surrounding him should have been able to see that he would not follow the "norm" and follow what others would tell him.

Trudell had also led a burning of the American flag because he did not like the way the government had treated indigenous people.

On June 11, 1971, Indian tribes that have been occupying Alcatraz Island in California had been removed by the government. Native Americans had limited options on where they could occupy an area dedicated to solely their tribes. I had tied this to Manifest Destiny. It had reminded me of how indigenous people were pushed farther and farther west until removal of their dominance was non-existent. As a result of this the Bureau of Indian Affairs were trying to reclaim their sovereignty.
