Children and Indians (Dr. Reese), W-6

False images are often created in the minds of children about what Native Americans should look like. In most children's books Indians are portrayed as darker skin (red), with tomahawks and head dresses with colorful feathers. Right away, we as North Americans are taught a stereotypical idea of what Indians are "supposed" to look like. Dr. Debbie Reese goes on to explain how children are taught this information and how it stays with them throughout life. I do not really remember learning too much about Native Americans as a child, but I somehow came up with this same idea of them. I actually thought this way until taking this class. I think that this goes to show that precise information is not being instilled into children's minds, or the curriculum being taught to them.
