As many know feminism is an issue in society that has received a lot of recognition in most recent decades. Feminism being a belief that women should have equal rights as men to issues such as political, social, sexual, intellectual, and economics. Women have received rights to all of these, except there are still existing problems of equality between men and women. Feminism has found a position in many cultures across the world. In our class we focused on feminism in Native American cultures. One person who has strongly impacted the issue of feminism is Winona LaDuke, who concentrates her frustrations with this issue in not only her own tribe/culture, but multiple indigenous nations throughout the world. I agree with many ideas that she has presented about feminism and how it is important that women take a stance in equality.
I also believe that many women/people are scared of the word feminism causing them to disregard any issues having to deal with it, also causing the inequality that women still face today. Many people think of the term as a contemptuous word or phrase which can cause discomfort of using it. I feel the discomfort comes from fear of a power loss from men.
